Product Description

bullet_cream_with_green_checkmark.jpg An essential macromineral that helps regulate body fluid levels and supports healthy acid/alkaline balance

What is potassium citrate?
Potassium is a mineral found in foods such as bananas, orange juice and potatoes. Potassium citrate is derived from chemically combining potassium and citric acid. It is known as one of the most absorbable forms of potassium. Like sodium and chloride, potassium is an electrolyte, meaning it takes on a positive or negative charge when dissolved in fluids. Potassium helps regulate the body's fluid levels.* It's also important for the transmission of nerve impulses, the contraction of muscles and energy production.*

Potassium citrate is a form of potassium in which potassium ions are bonded to citric acid. Citrates are highly bioavailable, meaning they're readily absorbed by cells.

Potassium citrate is also used in numerous soft drinks as a buffering agent.

How does potassium citrate support health?

  • By sparing calcium from excessive loss, potassium may play a vital part in maintaining healthy bone density.*
  • Evidence suggests potassium intake plays an important role in helping to maintain blood pressure levels already within normal range.*
  • Potassium citrate supports a healthy acid/alkaline balance in the body, which is important to kidney health.*

Potassium Citrate USP is a citrate salt of potassium and has the chemical name 1,2,3-Propanetricarboxylic acid, 2-hydroxy-, tripotassium salt, monohydrate. Its molecular formula is K3C6H 5O7.H2O , and its structural formula is: M.W. 324.41

Suggested Use:
As a dietary supplement, take 275 milligrams a day and mix with 8 to 12 ounces of water and drink, or as directed by a physician. Due to potential toxicity, use of a digital milligram scale is recommended.
As many foods are sufficiently high in potassium, the FDA recommends no more than 100 milligrams daily intake of elemental potassium. Since potassium citrate powder is approximately 36% elemental potassium, 275 milligrams (mg) of potassium citrate powder will yield an equivalent elemental potassium serving of 99 milligrams, within FDA standards.

WARNING: Too much potassium is toxic, even fatal. Do not exceed the suggested amount.

As always, consult a physician or a health care professional about concerns or questions before taking any dietary supplement to make sure it is right for you.

Make it convenient and safe to administer by encapsulating. Capsule Filler and empty capsules available here.

Ingredient: Pure pharmaceutical-grade potassium citrate monohydrate (100% pure). Contains no fillers, taste additives or anti-caking agents. CAS #6100-05-6. Free Of Milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, fish, soy, gluten, titanium dioxide.

Potential Side Effects
Potassium citrate is typically safe at suggested serving sizes. Occasional side effects include diarrhea, loose bowel movements, nausea, gastric upset (stomach irritation and pain) and vomiting.
A very serious allergic reaction is rare, but seek immediate medical attention if you notice a rash, itching or swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness or if you have trouble breathing.
This supplement may cause high potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia) which can result in cardiac dysfunction; therefore it is important that individuals with low kidney function, diabetes or heart disease be monitored closely while taking potassium supplements
People using potassium-sparing drugs should avoid using potassium-containing products and should not take potassium supplements unless they are under the supervision of a doctor.
If you are supplementing with potassium, pay careful attention to how much fruit you are eating daily as certain fruit contains a high amount of potassium.
